Criminal Background Investigations
Criminal Background Investigations
At no cost to the individual or an involved company/employer, all COA-TRT volunteers are required to undergo a Criminal Background Investigation (CBI) prior to their COA-TRT credentialing or start-date to establish their COA-TRT security clearance level. A Department of Defense confidential security clearance (or higher) will be accepted in-lieu of the COA-TRT CBI if the clearance was granted within the last two years and the appropriate federal validation forms are submitted to CTM Corporate Security for review/approval. The COA-TRT CBI process must be repeated every two years on all individuals. Applicants will be required to complete a COA-TRT CBI Form authorizing the Austin Police Department and/or the City of Austin to conduct and evaluate contents of a CBI on you and repeated when deemed necessary by the Cityof Austin with or without notice. Your CBI will include, but is not limited to; fingerprinting, your picture taken, educational and employment history verification, local/state/federal criminal history checks, wants/warrants check, driving record, and other avenues deemed necessary to complete a full background investigation on you. To avoid Police involvement and delay at the time of processing, individuals should clear any outstanding tickets/fines or warrants before starting the CBI process.
Specific disqualifying events include, but may not be limited to:
- A conviction, placement on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for a criminal offense of a Class-B misdemeanor within the preceding ten years.
- A conviction, placement on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense of a Class-A misdemeanor or higher at anytime.
- Current indictment for any criminal offense.
- Conviction of any family violence offense at anytime.
- A questionable driving history/record will be subject to review using City of Austin policy standards to determine if they are disqualified.
- A history of charges or arrest for certain offenses (sex crimes, child abuse, substance abuse, theft, and other offenses involving moral turpitude) will be subject to review to determine the seriousness and remoteness of the conduct and/or arrest.
After a successful skill-set interview, CTM Corporate Security will contact an applicant via phone or e-mail (preferred) to schedule their CBI. The CBI will be conducted at the Austin Police Department Headquarters (715 E. 8th St.), with the process taking up to 2-hours.
Should there be any questions regarding a CBI, please contact CTM Corporate Security at 974-7777.
