The City of Austin's National Emergency Technology Guard (NET Guard) pilot program.
Mission Statement
The mission of the City of Austin National Emergency Technology Guard (NET Guard) pilot program is to train and prepare volunteers as well as assist in responding to disastrous events affecting technology infrastructures within the Central Texas region.
Volunteers are needed!
The NET Guard program is currently looking for volunteers with the following qualifications:
- Volunteer Administrative Specialist
- Volunteer Desktop Support Technicians
- Volunteer Network Services Specialists
- Volunteer Programmers
- Volunteer Systems Administrators
Requirements:
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
- All applicants must undergo and pass a Criminal Background Investigation. Please do not apply for a volunteer position if you do not meet the criminal background investigation requirements.
- Volunteers must go through training.
- Volunteers must participate in an annual exercise.
- Volunteers must commit to assist if activated during an actual emergency.
- Volunteers must sign a confidentiality agreement with the City of Austin.
Training:
Volunteers must go through the CERT/NET Guard training class. You can find training dates and application here:
For questions about the training please email linda.haynie@ci,austin.tx.us. Once you submit your application you will hear back from our office with in a week. If you are not contacted please follow up as mail and faxes do get lost.
We are only offering one CERT training class in 2009 and expect demand to be very high. Preference will be given by application date so apply early!
